Waffles are a much-loved treat in Germany, for breakfast or for an afternoon snack. Traditional Herzwaffeln are made in heart-shaped waffle irons like this one and served with a simple sprinkling of powdered sugar. If you want to fancy your waffles up a bit more but stay true to German style, try a topping of fresh fruit or even applesauce.

How to make waffles with pancake mix?
Pancake batter typically contains baking powder and/or baking soda, while waffle batter often contains both baking powder and baking soda. This helps the waffles rise and become light and fluffy, while also contributing to a crispy exterior.
